Kailia Posey might not be a name many people are familiar with, but you definitely know the meme girl in purple who grinned wide as she side-eyed. Yes, the worldwide cultural impact she made as the short clip became an icon is unforgettable. Unfortunately, her mother announced her passing recently, just weeks after she turned 16.

“I don’t have words or any thoughts. A beautiful baby girl is gone. Please give us privacy as we mourn the loss of Kailia. My baby forever,” her mother, Marcy Posey Gatterman, posted on Facebook. Kailia’s fame began as early as the age of five when she appeared on TLC’s beauty pageant for kids ‘Toddlers & Tiaras.’

Her smile was infectious and the world came to know of her existence as her meme became so widely used. Before this, Kailia was already competing in pageants since she was three and before her untimely end, she was in the Miss Washington Teen USA in February. She won the Miss Lynden Teen USA title last year and has occasionally updated her followers on her modeling journey.

Aside from modeling, Kailia also showed a passion for contortion art, performing with Cirque du Soleil back in 2017. Kailia even acted for a role in ‘Eli’ (2018) as Agnes and was a freshman at Lynden High School in Washington. She was also admitted into the football cheerleading team and would be cheering starting next season.

The talented lady expressed that when she finishes high school, she’s aiming for aviation to become a commercial pilot. She also took part in the Ultimate Dream Queen Nationals competition in Las Vegas. Rumors are floating around her death. Page Six reported that Kailia might have been involved in a car accident, while TMZ reported that the beauty pageant winner had ended her own life.

Just two weeks ago, she was celebrating her 16th birthday and was celebrating her Sweet 16 in Washington. The girl shared her birthday pictures on social media, showing her family and close friends who came to celebrate with her. And just last weekend, her mother had shared some posts from her prom, captioning the Facebook post, “Well the dress didn’t come in and the earrings didn’t. So we found a dress ASAP. We make it work. Prom 2022 for Kailia and friends.”

What can be inferred from her last post was she might have been on a cruise and she captioned the post, “None of your concern.” Kaila had the #cruise hashtag on while showing what could be the interior of the luxurious vessel. Her family and the medical examiner from the high school she went to had refused to comment on any detail regarding her death. People are pouring in with condolences for her death.
