One of the most difficult times for the soldiers’ families is bidding them goodbye before they get deployed to other parts of the world. Nobody can tell what the future may bring. They spend days and nights worrying about their loved one how is risking his life for the country, for our freedom. Sadly, not every soldier gets to go home. One of them is Todd Weaver.
On Todd Weavers’ second tour in Afghanistan in 2010, he was killed by an IED. He was 26 years old. In his passing, he left behind his wife, Emma, and their baby girl, Kiley.
Emma was living in Hampton, Virginia when she learned that her husband has been killed. His belongings were shipped back to her and one of them was his laptop. When she opened it, she did not expect to find anything.
But as she was browsing through it, she was shocked because there were two letters addressed to the two of the most important women in Todds’ life. The first one was titled, “Dear Emma” while the other was titled, “Dear Kylie. ”
Todd probably made sure that he saved the letters on his laptop so that his wife and child can read it in the event of his passing. A video of Emma reading the letters out loud became viral.
In his letter to Emma, he said wrote, “Well if you are reading this, I guess I did not make it home, and therefore, I was not able to remind you again of how much I love you.” He then continued to tell her how much he loves her. He said, “Although I may not be here right now, take comfort in the fact that I am watching over you right now.”
He added, “Never forget that God knew what was best for us before we were even born. Take comfort in that. This happened for a reason. Although you may not believe it now, you will one day. ” Todd also reminded her that she is very important to him. “I could not ask for a more caring, beautiful, and loving wife.
The memories that we have shared over the last few years have been the best of my life. Although it may seem like my life was cut short, I lived a life that most can only dream of. I married the perfect woman. I have a beautiful daughter that amazed me every day. ”
Todd ended the letter saying, “Much better times are coming. You and Kiley have a wonderful life ahead of you and I am so happy to have shared some of it with you.”
Todd also wrote a letter for his 9-month-old baby girl, Kiley. He wrote: “Although you may not remember me, I want you to know how very much your Daddy loves you. ” He then explained that she was only 9-months-old when he left for Afghanistan and leaving was the hardest thing for him to do. “You are so very special to me sweetie – you are truly a gift from God.
The best day of my life was the day you were born. Every time I saw you smile my heart would just melt. ”
He also apologized that he will not be able to see her grow. But he said, “You have such a bright and beautiful future ahead of you. Have fun. Enjoy it. And remember, your Daddy will always be proud of you and will always love you. You are and will always be my sweetie.”
There is no doubt that this young man was not only a brave soldier but a loving husband and father. May he rest in peace, and may his dear family find peace as well.
