On Valentine’s Day, three people—including a mother and her 3-year-old son—were discovered dead inside a Connecticut house. After receiving a “report of a suspicious incident,” officers found Lury Pizarro, 33, and her son Emanual, 3, inside the Brooklyn residence around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Connecticut State Police, as reported by PEOPLE. Jose A. Perez, 32, was also discovered deceased at the scene, but his relationship with the other deceased has not yet been disclosed by the police. But, they have stated that the deaths so far seem to be “an isolated incident.”

“There is no ongoing threat to the public,” the release said. “The investigation remains active and ongoing. “Neighbors of the family told NBC 10 News on Wednesday, February 15, that they heard gunshots. The neighbors said a man, woman and child moved into the Middle Street apartment a few months ago. “She was very helpful, giving and selfless,” said Leyshaliz Otero, Pizarro’s cousin and Emmanuel’s godmother. “Her son was like a rock but when you got into him, he was loving and nice,” she added.

The family said Pizarro and Emmanuel were very close. They added that she had three miscarriages before having Emmanuel. “They were always together. She’s always there paying attention to anything that he needs,” said Pizarro’s aunt, Naty Aldarin. “He was the one that was able to bless her you know to have him.” Pizarro was referred to as “an amazing and beloved mother, daughter, sister, and cousin” on a GoFundMe page organized by Otero. She “was a kind and generous person who touched the lives of many. She was selfless and always helped others,” the page reads about the beloved mom. The post further elaborates sharing things about the young 3-year-old, saying, “Emmanuel was an intelligent, caring, affectionate and playful 3-year-old boy.”

Her aunt Aldarin added, saying, “Money wise it’s kind of tight and that is the reason we did this but we never thought we ever were going to be doing something like this.”

Otero further wrote on the post that it “saddens me and breaks my heart” because the mom was very excited about becoming a parent. “It was something she wanted so badly,” she wrote. Otero said she started the GoFundMe page to help Lury’s mother, Maria, with the funeral costs. “She is always there for anybody who needs her help and this time she needs everybody’s support. We were very thankful and grateful that people are helping us through this hard time and everyone’s words of condolences,” said Otero. “We really appreciate it.”
