“They are left to bang jump of the bed so loud that it shakes my bedroom. I’m getting really fed up with it”

One frustrated homeowner has been rattled after their neighbours’ kids constantly wake them up early in the morning on both weekdays and weekends.

Complaining that they are “exhausted” as they can never catch up on sleep, the homeowner explains that they feel as if their neighbours’ kids are left unattended because of the sheer amount of noise and chaos they cause.

Looking for some advice, the poster explained her situation on a popular forum chat: “I have neighbours that have 2 young kids who are constantly waking me up around 5.30-6am every morning. I know they cannot stop their kids getting up and making noise, I have a child myself I understand that, but the issue is they are not getting out of bed with them”

“They are leaving them alone in [their] bedroom which is joined to mine for up to 3 hours alone every morning so they can have a lie in, neglectful really”, they continued.

“They are left to bang jump of the bed so loud that it shakes my bedroom. I’m getting really fed up with it. I work full time and exhausted not catching up with my sleep on the weekend because they won’t get up with them.”

“They also come up to bed late gone midnight slamming every door waking me up as well.”, the poster concluded, asking the question, “Am I being unreasonable or should I complain to the council. I have spoke to them before about the noise but they shrug it if saying they cannot stop them.”

Many people added their own personal opinion to what the homeowner can do in this situation. One wrote: “This sounds very frustrating. I would perhaps first try and approach your neighbours to see if you can let them know they are being very disruptive very early in the morning.”

“Ultimately it’s within their property so not sure there’s much you can do. Before complaining formally I would defo try and appeal to them direct and explain”, the user advised.

Another one said they would complain first: “I would complain, but I can tell you its a long process. I’ve been there. Out of desperation, I have bought earplugs and it made a huge difference. They’re not comfortable but the sleep quality is so much better.”

Some people questioned how the person knew their neighbours’ kids were unattended: “How do you know the parents aren’t getting up with them? Sometimes my kids wake that early and I’ll either go lie in their room while they play if I still want to snooze a bit or I’ll be downstairs making breakfast and stuff I don’t know how my neighbours would have any idea at all about what I was doing in this time.”

Explaining further the original poster replied: “I couldn’t imagine anyone allowing that noise at that time of morning and for that amount of time. If it was every now and then I wouldn’t mind I know kids are knackering and sometimes getting out of bed is a struggle, but it’s every weekend and the lack of sleep is catching up with me now.”
