The heated trial between Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard is not yet over but it looks like Depp’s fans are already planning big things for the former Fantastic Beasts actor. A petition is calling for Depp to be brought back as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and it’s now gaining more signatures.
The petition was actually started two years ago, which was also two years after rumors of Johnny Depp being removed from Pirates of the Caribbean were reported. However, it didn’t get many signatures as there was a major backlash against Depp following Amber Heard’s op-ed where he is depicted as her abuser.
Interestingly, things have changed since Johnny Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard and the first part of the trial introduced new evidence that is changing the public’s opinion about the actor. This has led to the petition gaining more signatures in the past week.
As of writing, the petition to bring Johnny Depp back in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has 438,750 signatures. It is still unclear if the outcome of the trial will continue to affect the petition. You can check it out here.
Johnny Depp had previously stated during the trial that he is no longer interested in returning as Jack Sparrow in any Pirates of the Caribbean project. The actor pointed out that Disney had removed him from the sixth film because Amber Heard had alleged that he had abused her throughout their relationship. Since then, Depp had clarified that he wanted to do one last movie to give his character a “proper goodbye.”
The trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is ongoing. Depp’s lawyers have already presented their side and Heard is finally taking the stand to testify this week.
