Johnny Depp Allegedly Punched A Crew Member On Set So He Will Be Back In Court In July 2022
Johnny Depp is in the middle of a new legal battle. This comes right after his trial against Amber Heard, which got a lot of worldwide attention. The jury in Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard’s defamation case reached a verdict on June 1, 2022, and Depp’s many supporters couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
And now, this new case is going to be in Los Angeles this time. A lawsuit has been filed against him by Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, who claims that he was hit on the set of City of Lies.
Newsweek reports: “Gregg “Rocky” Brooks—who worked as a location manager on Depp’s film City of Lies, about the murder of rapper The Notorious B.I.G.—has accused the actor of punching him in the chest during a dispute on the Los Angeles set in April 2017.”
Greg “Rocky” Brooks was working with Depp on the set of the movie when allegedly, the actor hit him several times. Brooks filed his lawsuit three years ago, but the case hasn’t moved forward since then. Also, others who were present that day have different stories to tell about how the events turned out.
The incident reportedly took place in April 2017, while the movie “City of Lies” was being filmed. According to Brooks, he told the movie’s director, Brad Furman, that they needed to wrap up for the day and that Depp’s next take would be his last.
Brooks said that it was his job to convince Depp that he needed to stop shooting for the night, even though he thought that the director should have been in charge of that.
Brooks says that out of the blue, Depp reached out to him first and punched him, and not the other way around. He then went looking for the security guard on set to accompany him. Also, Brooks added that at the time, Depp smelled like alcohol. Depp allegedly acted like he was drunk before hitting him twice in the ribs in a “violent and angry” manner.
After the incident, the actor reportedly said, “I will give you one hundred thousand dollars to punch me in the face right now!”
When Brooks returned to work the following week, he was allegedly requested to sign a contract stating that he would not sue Depp or the production crew for what had ensued. In the document, it stated: “I won’t sue Depp or the people who worked on the movie because of what happened.”
He refused to sign the said document. That’s when he got kicked out of the project.
This case is different from the one in Fairfax, and the outcome there is irrelevant, Brooks’ lawyer Pat Harris stated. He said, “The Brooks case is not about two Hollywood celebrities involved in a toxic relationship, it is about the assault on a hard-working film crew member by the star of the production. Mr. Brooks is looking forward to his day in court.”
Johnny Depp and the rest of the production team have not yet commented about the upcoming trial. For this case, which will be heard at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles, Depp isn’t the only person who will be charged. A number of other people will also be facing charges as well.
