Family drama isn’t necessarily a rare occurrence. All over the world, some families are dysfunctional and don’t always produce the healthiest and most wholesome relationships.
The Friends star lost her mother, Nancy Dow, back in 2016 when she passed away at the age of 79. Dow was also an actress and suffered from poor health before her eventual demise. She had suffered a stroke in 2011 and another one in 2012.
And Aniston and Dow weren’t necessarily on the best of terms during this time period. But the famous actress still made it a point to contribute to her mother’s rising medical bills. Unfortunately, not even that was enough to warrant Aniston’s inclusion in Dow’s will.
A Sad Passing
When her mother passed, Aniston released a public statement about the tragedy:
“It is with great sadness that my brother John and I announce the passing of our Mother Nancy Dow. She was 79 years old and passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends after enduring a long illness. We ask that our family’s privacy be respected as we grieve our loss.”
Aniston was only nine years old when her parents got divorced. And that divorce really took a toll on Aniston and her relationship with her mother. In fact, a source close to the family claims that Nancy and Jennifer had a very complicated relationship up until her death. Despite that, it hurt Aniston dearly to have lost her mother.
“Nancy fought a very long battle, with many ups and downs, and Jennifer is grateful for the happy times they shared. She is pulling close to her husband and family and feels so supported by their love,” said the source.
Another source close to the family also revealed that Dow had changed her will just before she died without telling anyone in the family. Apparently, Dow had arranged for all of her assets to be bequeathed to another relative, and none of it went to Jen.
Complicated Family Relationships
Jennifer Aniston hasn’t been a stranger to opening up a lot about many of the negative effects of her traumatic childhood. In fact, the actress has been open about consistently struggling with anger issues and passive-aggressive behavior.
“I’m a control freak. I like to be in charge of everything. My life was so out of control growing up, it’s very important today for it to be in control.”
But it seems like Jennifer has been at peace with how everything turned out with her mother.
“She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous and stunning. I wasn’t, I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty… But what’s the point of holding on to [anger]? That’s so toxic. We’re human beings. Human beings make mistakes.”
