Samantha Tygrit had just finished shopping at her local Walmart in 2018 in Las Vegas. She had brought along her 10-year-old daughter Aaliyah, 18-month-old son and four-year-old nephew.
While Samantha packed up the car, she heard the sound of gunshots ringing out in broad daylight. The kids were in the back of the car as two men opened fire on each other in a gun battle.
Though Samantha didn’t know where the shots were coming from, she knew she needed to protect the children. The stray bullets struck her in the shoulder, but she was able to run towards the kids to shield them.
“I pulled my 4-year-old out, threw her on the ground, and held her down, and before I had a chance to get my 10-year-old and my 18-month-old, my 10-year-old looked at me and said she’d already been shot,” Samantha told reporters.
Aaliyah had felt a sudden pain shooting through her body… then she saw the blood.
But it’s how and why the 10-year-old girl got hit by the bullets that makes this story so incredible.
