Twitter is exploding with memes about Leonardo DiCaprio’s 29-year age gap with his rumored new partner Eden Polani – and online users are using it to highlight the other inappropriate pairings who are the same age as them.
Speculation that Leonardo, 48, was dating 19-year-old Paris-born model Eden arose after they were pictured hanging out at the release party for Ebony Riley’s new EP on January 31.
And while sources tell DailyMail.com that he and Eden are just friends, many people were disturbed by the idea of them potentially being together – especially because they are the same ages as some well-known on-screen father-daughter duos.
Soon after the photos of Leo and Eden hit the web, social media erupted with people who pointed out that their massive age difference is almost the same as actors David Harbour, who is 47, one year younger than Leo, and Millie Bobby Brown, who is 18, a year younger than Eden.
David plays Detective Jim Hopper – who adopts Millie’s character Eleven – in the Netflix series Stranger Things.
Others also noted that the Titanic alum and his rumored new love interest are also nearly the same age as Pedro Pascal, 47, and Bella Ramsey, 19, who portray Joel and Ellie in the popular new HBO show The Last of Us.
While the two are not technically related in the series, Joel acts like a father to Ellie as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse together.
Some said the comparisons made their ‘skin crawl,’ while others tweeted that it made them want to ‘throw up.’
‘Just taking a moment to really consider that Leo DiCaprio, 48, and his new girlfriend, 19, is the same age gap as David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown, and Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Skin crawling,’ one person wrote.
‘Just saw someone say Leo DiCaprio and his new girlfriend have the same age gap as David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown… I am about to throw up,’ another added.
Someone else said: ‘Just saw a headline that said the age difference between Leo and his new gf is the same as David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown and threw up in my mouth.’
‘I nearly spat out my drink,’ read a fourth tweet, while a fifth said, ‘Oh dear God, I’m going to vomit.
Others simply commented, ‘Ew,’ ‘Gross,’ and, ‘Sick.’
One woman even posted about it on TikTok, sharing a picture of Pedro and Bella together and stating, ‘If you want to grasp that age gap by seeing it in different people, here you go … It shows how f**king nasty it is.’
Her video got more than five million views and it garnered a fierce reaction from viewers.
‘That’s more than the age gap between me and my DAD. I actually gagged when I put that together,’ wrote one user.
‘I’m the same age as her and my parents are younger than him,’ said someone else.
‘I genuinely gasped out loud,’ commented a different person, while another added, ‘The way my jaw hit the ground.’
Many people are also taken aback by the idea that Eden is so young, her high school education was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, she was not even born when Titanic was released in 1997 – more than 25 years ago.
Someone else tweeted: ‘Kate Winslet was 22 when she was nominated for an Oscar for Titanic. Which is 3 years older than Leonardo DiCaprio’s current girlfriend.’
‘DiCaprio’s girlfriend is so young she probably studied the Romeo and Juliet film he starred in when she was at school,’ another person wrote.
‘Someone please explain to me what a man nearing 50 has in common with *checks notes* a 19 year old?’ asked a different user.
Leo has been linked to a slew of other women who are a lot younger than him over the years, and has famously made a habit of never dating any woman over the age of 25.
His first public relationship was with fashion icon Gisele Bündchen in 1999 – when she was 18 and he was 25 – and they were together for five years before splitting in 2004.
He was then linked to Israeli model Bar Refaeli from 2005 to 2010, and their romance began when she was age 20 and ended right before she turned 25.
Leo also dated actress Blake Lively for one year in 2011, when she was 23 and he was 37.
Over the years, he was also rumored to have dated Victoria Secret angel Erin Heatherton in 2012, when she was 22 and he was 38, German model Toni Garrn in 2013, when she was 21 and he was 39, actress Kelly Rohrbach in 2015, when she was 25 and he was 41, and catwalk queen Nina Agdal in 2016, when she was 24 and he was 42.
He also dated model Camila Morrone from 2017 to 2022, with their relationship beginning she was 20 and he was 43, and there were brief rumors that he was dating supermodel Gigi Hadid in 2022, when she was 27 and he was 47.
In recent months, he has been linked to the 23-year-old daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas, Victoria Lamas, but it is unclear if they are still dating as they have not been pictured publicly together since late December.
