Before becoming an actor, Cain used to play football professionally. However, a severe knee injury ended his career when he was still in the early stages of becoming a sportsman.
Dean was born in July 1966 in Michigan. His biological parents are Sharon Tanaka and Roger Tanaka, but his father abandoned him and Sharon while he was still a baby. After three years, his mother remarried a director, Christopher Cain, who legally adopted Dean and his brother.
Dean changed his last name to Cain and said that he didn’t have anything to do with his actual father,
“My biological father is Japanese. I never knew him, never met him.”
Reportedly, his birth father, Roger Tanaka, never tried to contact his sons, let alone meet them.
The Superman actor was popular among ladies for his charming looks and graceful personality and had several affairs with different actresses and models.

In the late 1990s, he started dating Playboy model Samantha Torres who gave birth to his son, Christopher, in 2000. He named his son after his adoptive father.
Cain and Torres didn’t get along well after their son’s birth and soon parted ways. Later he took his son’s custody through the court. It was not an easy fight, but he didn’t give up, and in 2011, he won the case and received the sole custody of his son.
Now that he was a single parent, Cain decided he would not repeat the history; like his father, Roger, he would not abandon his son.
While talking to the ABC News, the ‘Hit the Floor’ actor shared,
“I cook every meal for my child. If I don’t cook, he doesn’t eat. I cook a very mean steak. I’m also very good at taking the nine leftovers and turning them into something.”
He also said that he always preferred the ‘hands-on’ approach to raising his son, so he must be there for him most of the time.
However, this did not come easy, and he had to make many difficult decisions, like choosing to be with his son rather than attending PTA meetings.
While Christopher was growing up, Dean had several things to deal with; he worked as a writer, director, producer, talk-show host, and political analyst while being a full-time father. It wasn’t easy for him, but he managed nonetheless.
Cristopher was always his top priority, so Dean stopped taking lead roles in movies and TV shows. His fans weren’t pleased with his decision, but the actor made it very clear that nothing comes above his son.
After Christopher’s eighteenth birthday, Cain started accepting major roles again.
While talking to Closer Weekly, Cain said he wanted to be with his son at his Jujitsu events and nothing was more important than being Christopher’s football, basketball, and baseball coach.
“I’m there. I’m a very present father and would never do it otherwise. I’m blessed to be able to have the ability to do so many different things and yet still be a father first.”
The father and son share a strong bond between them, and they are very close to each other. The duo is admirably close, which is quite evident from Dean’s Instagram updates.
The 55-year-old actor loves his son more than anything and calls him his favorite human.
