Balenciaga has become one of the first major fashion brands to leave Twitter amid concerns about the platform’s future under Elon Musk.

Representatives for Balenciaga confirmed to Vogue on Monday that the company’s Twitter account had been removed but did not comment publically on the reasons behind the decision.

The brand follows the departure of several celebrities and public figures, including Shonda Rhimes and Gigi Hadid, who have expressed concerns over Musk’s leadership.

Concerns over content moderation and a rise in hate speech are some of the common reasons cited by those choosing to abandon the platform.

Twitter’s advertising revenue has also suffered from the uncertainty surrounding the company. Brands including Audi, Pfizer, and General Mills have reportedly paused their advertising on the platform.

Since purchasing the company last month, Musk has proposed a series of new features and laid off almost half the company’s employees.

The rollout of Twitter’s paid-for verification system has been notably difficult for brands on the platform. Almost immediately after the feature was launched it was seized by trolls and parody accounts masquerading under the names of brands and public figures.

One spoof account of the insulin-producing pharmaceutical firm, Eli Lilly and Company, led to its stock falling after a fake verified account tweeted “insulin is free now.”

Representatives for Twitter and Balenciaga did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment
